Eluent Attrib allows you to change the
following file and folder attributes:
| Attribute |
Description |
| Archive |
Windows
sets this attribute when you modify a file, while backup
programs may clear it after they back up a file. |
| Hidden |
Setting
this attribute results in an object that by default is hidden in
Explorer views and command line directory listings. |
| Read-Only |
Objects
possessing this attribute may be read but not modified or
deleted. |
| System |
This
attribute may be set for an operating system object. |
| Compressed |
This
attribute is set for a compressed object residing on an NTFS
volume. NTFS requires Windows NT or 2000. |
| Encrypted |
This
attribute is set for an encrypted object residing on an NTFS
volume in Windows 2000. Windows NT 4 does not support file or
folder encryption. |
| Not
Content-Indexed |
When
set, this Windows 2000 attribute suppresses content-indexing of
objects by the Indexing Service. |
The Eluent Attrib dialog box appears when you run Eluent Attrib from
the Start Menu or an Explorer context menu, and when you run the elattrib
console program without any arguments. Below, Eluent Attrib is running
under Windows 2000 and is about to use NTFS compression to compress all the files and folders listed by the Path Plans checked in
the Path Plan Chooser:

After you press OK, Eluent Attrib begins to process your
files, and a progress window appears, from which you
can cancel the operation at any time.
